October Level-Up Reading Challenge

One small step each day to boost your wellbeing through reading

In October, we invited participants to take part in a 5-day challenge (October 21โ€“25) focused on personal growth and wellbeing by exploring the timeless book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. Whether reading along or simply watching the daily videos, the challenge encouraged small daily steps to level up mindset, motivation, and overall wellbeing.

The challenge was also a great opportunity for those outside the chnnl community to experience what itโ€™s like to be part of the chnnl Psychological Safety Programme, with full access to the chnnl app and dashboard for the month!

Some of the habits explored included:

  • Be Proactive: Focus on what you can control

  • Begin with the End in Mind: Set goals with a clear vision

  • Put First Things First: Prioritise what truly matters

  • Think Win-Win: Seek mutually beneficial outcomes

  • Sharpen the Saw: Keep growing in all areas of life

Day One: Being Proactive

  • Today we're diving into the habit of being proactive! This is all about taking responsibility for your actions and behaviours, alongside focusing on what you can control, opposed to reacting to external circumstances. The key lessons stem from challenging yourself to test the principle of proactivity.

    In today's video, we are joined by Guest Speaker, Sheldon Brown. He was a part of the 2010 Warriors squad, is a recording artist and recipient of a Tui award, and is a community leader!

  • Alongside today's video, we have a free resource which you can access here, called the Circle of Influence Exercise. This is introduced in the video, and helps to focus on actions we can actually take. It was originally introduced by Stephen Covey, and helps to separate what we can control from what we can't.

Day Two: Defining your personal 'Why'

 

  • Today is about diving into how to define a clear vision of your goals and long-term aspirations through identifying your personal 'why'. By making sure that every action aligns with your ultimate objectives, you are one step closer to long-term success. Today's video features a clip of English-American author and inspirational speaker, Simon Sinek, who gives insight towards the topic and inspiring advice.

Day 2 7 Habits 2024 - Simon Sinek

Day Three: Putting first things first.

 

  • This habit is framed around the idea of prioritising tasks based on importance opposed to urgency. You will reach success faster through focusing on high-value activities that align better with your personal and professional goals. Check-out the video and resource to help solidify this habit!

    Our guest in today's video is Ali van Barneveld, who is the programme manager of Wฤhine Connect, a health promotion expert, and community leader. Ali is joining us and sharing tips towards the importance of accountability, alongside how this can help to better yourself and build habits.

Day Four: Think win-win & Seek first to understand, then to be understood

  • On today's video, we are joined by Fiona Michel, who is an inspiring thought leader and CEO of Braemar Hospital. The first habit, habit four, is all about cultivating a mindset that seeks mutual benefit throughout interactions and relationships, while striving towards agreements that provide value to both parties. Meanwhile, habit five dives into the importance of listening empathetically to others before expressing your own viewpoint. Fiona gives insight towards the key ideas and benefits of either reacting to a situation, or having a more controlled reaction to things which aren't charged by an emotional response.

Day Five: Synergise & Sharpen the Saw

  • Today, we're looking into both the habits of 'synergise', and 'sharpen the saw'. Synergising means to leverage the power of teamwork and collaboration - when individuals work together effectively, the result is greater than the sum of their parts. Meanwhile, sharpening the saw refers to continuously renewing and improving yourself cross the four key areas of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual, which are all essential for balancing, and maintaining productivity.
